Francesc Giralt Prat

Bio

Francesc Giralt (1948) graduated in chemistry and chemical engineering from the IQS (Barcelona) and the University of Barcelona, respectively, and completed his education at the University of Toronto (MASc; PhD), University of Barcelona (ScD), and ICT-Barcelona (DBA). Visiting scholar at many universities of great renown, he has directed and collaborated in several national and international R&D+i projects. His research work and contributions to innovate engineering education have been recognized with diverse prizes and awards. He is an expert in complex systems, non-linear dynamics, and transport phenomena. Research topics have become more interdisciplinary over time, involving chemistry, engineering, and physics at the nano, micro and milli-scales, and the application of sociotechnical systems approaches at the macro-scale of city transformations. As a result, he has authored and coauthored more than 250 conference papers and 150 publications, while directing 195 projects, supervising 34 PhD theses, leading the creation of 2 spin-offs, and contributing to an ISO standard on sustainable cities. He has directed the City Protocol Society and the Fundació.cat, and has held several administrative academic positions such as Faculty Dean and Department Chair at the University of Barcelona and University Rovira i Virgili.
